Sanskritordet Kundalini kan översättas med “slingrande kvinnlig orm”.

Ormen är vår energi som slingrar sig vid basen av vår ryggrad och representerar den feminina delen av Gud.

Det gudomliga i oss själva har både en maskulin och en feminin sida.
Adi Shakti är den kvinnliga kraft som omfattar ananda (salighet), chit (ren medvetenhet) och Prema (kärlek).

Kundalini shakti är själva medvetandeenergin som, när den väcks, ger högre medvetandetillstånd, inklusive samadhi.

Kundaliniyoga innehåller en mängd olika tekniker som används för att väcka och flytta energi upp genom chakrana med hjälp av olika asanas, pranayamas, mantras och mudras.

Det kan verka som en avlägsen kusin till Hatha Yoga eftersom tonvikten ligger mindre på asanas.

Varför vilar denna kraft?

Enligt tantrisk filosofi är hela universum en manifestation av rent medvetande.

När det rena medvetandet manifesterar universum tycks det delas upp i två poler eller aspekter, där ingen av dem kan existera utan den andra.
När dessa två poler inte förenas blir kraften vilande.

Shiva och Shakti

Den ena av dessa poler har en statisk kvalitet och förblir identifierad med det omanifesterade medvetandet.
Denna kvalitet kallas shiva och konceptualiseras som maskulin.

Shiva har makten att vara men inte makten att bli eller agera.
Han är makthavaren men har ingen egen energi.

Den andra polen är en dynamisk, energisk och kreativ aspekt som kallas shakti – personifierad som Shakti, universums stora moder.

Från henne föds alla former.
Shakti är det subtilaste av skapade ting.
Hon manifesterar sig själv som hela universum: materia, liv och sinne.

Shakti är en projektion av rent medvetande som fördunklar medvetandet med de otaliga illusoriska manifestationer(maya) som hon frambringar.
Detta är vad vi kallar universum.

Dessa två principer – shiva och shakti – är förenade, men i världen vet vi att det skapas en illusion av separation mellan det rena medvetandet och dess manifestationer.
Detta leder till förvirring och feltolkning av vår värld eller att vi misstar det overkliga för verkligt.

Enligt tantra är människan ett universum i miniatyr.
Allt som finns i kosmos finns inom varje individ, och samma principer som gäller för universum gäller för den enskilda individen.

Hos människan beskrivs det överskott av energi som inte används för att upprätthålla organismens funktion också symboliskt som en slingrande orm.

Denna potentiella energi sägs vila vid ryggmärgens bas, vid Muladhara-chakrat (rotstödschakrat), där den kallas kundalini.
Denna kundalini är det statiska stödet för hela kroppen och dess praniska krafter.

Personer som har kontrollerad tillgång till den omedvetna upplevelsen har rikligt med energi, insikt och kreativitet.

Omvandlingen av shaktikraften till en aktiv form kallas för uppvaknandet av kundalini.

Kundaliniyoga innebär att man väcker denna kundalini-shakti och systematiskt leder henne genom alla chakran till Sahasrara-chakrat.
När shakti färdas upp till toppen och ger energi till varje centrum längs vägen blir man helt uppväckt.

Denna yoga, eller förening, kan förstås som att kundalini shakti förenas med Shiva (rent medvetande).
Denna förening är yogins mål.

Yoga har flera metoder för att väcka den sovande kraften.
Kundalini och tantra yoga är de mest missförstådda av alla yogapraktiker.

Dessa heliga, systematiska och avancerade metoder för att nå ett transcendent medvetande har förvanskats.

I de förvrängda versionerna av dessa typer av yoga hör vi ofta om tuffa andningsövningar och ogrundade påståenden från lärare om att de direkt väcker denna energi hos eleverna genom sin blotta beröring eller närvaro.

För att verkligen väcka kundalini krävs förberedelser.
Utan lång, tålmodig övning i att rena oss själva och stärka vår förmåga att assimilera en sådan flod av energi, skulle uppvaknandet av denna kraft störa och förvirra oss.

Om vi genom noggrann träning har lärt oss att känna igen och bemästra våra omedvetna demoner, är det först då vi är beredda att möta det fulla uppvaknandet av det som finns latent inom oss.

Man tror att shakti inte bara innehåller latent energi utan också latenta minnen.

Den lärare som representerar en autentisk tradition som lär ut metoder för att väcka kundalini kommer aldrig att avslöja dessa fullt ut för en oförberedd elev men kommer att göra sitt bästa för att förbereda eleven.

Förberedelser för uppvaknande av kundalini är viktigare än uppvaknande av kundalini.

Metoder för att förbereda sig för att väcka kundalini

Fysiska tekniker

Kroppen måste vara förberedd på att tolerera den ökande energin.

Sekvenserna av fysiska ställningar, sång och speciella andningstekniker kallas Kriyas och hjälper den andliga energin i basen av ryggraden att stiga och skapa en energisk inriktning.

En typisk kundaliniyogaklass börjar med uppvärmning eller injustering, följt av andningsövningar, sanskritläsning och fysiska asanas (poser) som får energin att flöda upp och genom chakrana.

Sjungande

Ett vanligt sätt att stämma in och påbörja en Kundalini-övning är att sjunga sanskritfrasen “Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo”, vilket betyder “Jag bugar mig för den kreativa visdomen, jag bugar mig för den gudomliga läraren inom mig”.

Pranayama

Eldandningen, som på sanskrit kallas Agni Pran och är nära besläktad med Kapalbhati, är en kraftfull och avgiftande pranayama-teknik som värmer upp kroppen, rensar lungor och bihålor och hjälper kroppen att läka och bygga upp styrka.

Breath of Fire använder diafragman som en bälg i en öppen spis; du pumpar snabbt in och ut nya andetag ur lungorna i en jämn rytm som liknar en hunds flämtande.

Den snabba förflyttningen av syre stimulerar kropp, sinne och själ.

Det är viktigt att ha en stark pranayama-övning innan du införlivar denna andningsteknik i din yogapraktik.

Eftersom metoden använder magmusklerna för att trycka in diafragman kraftigt är det också viktigt att vara i god fysisk kondition när man utövar denna teknik.

Om du har hjärtproblem eller högt blodtryck, ryggsjukdomar, luftvägsinfektion eller yrsel ska du INTE utöva Breath of Fire.
För kvinnor gäller särskilt att om du är gravid ska du inte göra Breath of Fire.

Sitt på plats med rak ryggrad och börja flämta som en hund.
När du andas in expanderar magen – när du andas ut drar magen ihop sig igen med en kort och snabb rytm.

Inandningen är passiv och utandningen är kraftfull.

Asanas

Ego Eradicator

– Denna övning kan göras i Easy Pose eller Rock Pose.
– Lyft armarna till en 60-graders vinkel.
– Håll armbågarna raka och axlarna nere.
– Sträck tummarna uppåt som om du skulle ansluta dem till himlen.
– Vik in fingrarna i fingertopparna, sträck ut handflatorna och dra knogarna bakåt.
– Rikta blicken upp mot det tredje ögonchakrat och påbörja eldandningen.

Koncentration och meditation

Kundalini kan också väckas genom intensiv koncentration och meditation på specifika känselnerver, t.ex. nästippen eller tungroten, och specifika chakran.

Meditation på ett chakra tillsammans med upprepning av ett särskilt mantra och i vissa fall en visualisering (yantra) kan väcka energi och föra den till det centret.

Tantra

Föreningen mellan Shakti och Shiva odlas i tantra yoga.
